 Kindergarten & 1st Grade - Senufo Tribal Animal Designs
Students created drawing of reptiles/amphibians basing their designs on those of the 
Senufo Tribe from Africa's West Coast.  We learned about and used warm and cool colors.

2nd & 3rd Grades - If I Could Fly Quilt Squares
We listened to Faith Ringgold's story Tar Beach and visually retold the 
story as if we were the main character using collage.  Students 
used neutral and complementary color schemes to produce vivid collages.

We reviewed our primary colors and practiced mixing (and eating) secondary colors.
 
 Chinese New Year / Color Theory - Lesson Board K-5

 Chinese New Year / Color Theory - Lesson Board K-5
 Kindergarten & 1st Grade - Chinese Blossom Branch Painting
We mixed tints and shades to create beautiful blossom paintings.
 Kindergarten & 1st Grade - Chinese Lanterns
Students made 3-dimensional lanterns from their blossom paintings.  
We reviewed color vocabulary and practiced measuring, using a straight 
edge, and cutting skills.  Through this process students gained some
understanding of the traditional celebrations of Chinese New Year.
2nd & 3rd Grade - Chinese Dragon or Lion Masks
Students used prior knowledge of symmetry and balance.  We learned 
about and used tertiary colors, analogous colors, and complementary 
colors.  We celebrated Chinese New Year using our masks in
traditional Dragon and Lion Parades.

  4th Grade - Chinese Accordion Dragon Puppets
Students learned about and used tints and shades, analogous colors, and 
complementary colors.  We also explored Chinese culture, legends, and 
traditions surrounding the celebration of Chinese New Year.  Students 
carried their puppets in a Chinese New Year parade.

5th Grade - Chinese Lucky Koi Fish
Students learned about and used tints and shades, analogous colors, 
and complementary colors.  We also explored Chinese culture, legends, and 
traditions surrounding the celebration of Chinese New Year.  Students created 
their own hanging 3-dimensional koi to represent prosperity and luck in 
the Chinese New Year.
